Kheda: A pregnant woman was allegedly killed by her husband in Gujarat’s Kheda district after he forced her to consume liquid nano urea, an agricultural product, before attempting to make her death appear to be a suicide, police said. Mahudha police have detained her husband, Mitul Sodha, and brother-in-law, Vipul Sodha, as investigators examine allegations of domestic harassment and the suspected involvement of other family members.
Woman initially reported to have died by suicide
Kheda: The case came to light after the woman, identified as Arunaben, was initially reported to have died by suicide by hanging. However, the investigation and the reported findings of the post-mortem examination raised doubts about that account.
According to the information provided by police, the examination indicated that Arunaben died after consuming a poisonous substance rather than as a result of hanging. Investigators are examining the circumstances in which the substance was allegedly administered and whether the scene was subsequently altered to conceal the actual cause of death.
The case has prompted an investigation into alleged domestic abuse, the events leading up to the woman’s death and the actions of family members who may have been present.
Police have detained Mitul and Vipul in connection with the case. Their alleged roles, along with those of other relatives named in the complaint, are being investigated.
Brother alleges harassment over suspicions about her character
Arunaben’s brother, Virendrasinh, lodged a complaint alleging that she had faced physical and mental harassment from her husband, mother-in-law Kailashben, brother-in-law Vipul Sodha and sister-in-law Alpaben.
According to the complaint, disputes within the household were reportedly linked to suspicions about Arunaben’s character and allegations of infidelity. Police are examining claims that these accusations contributed to repeated arguments between Arunaben and her husband.
Such allegations form an important part of the investigation into the circumstances preceding her death. Investigators will need to establish the nature of the alleged harassment, the sequence of events on the night of the incident and whether any of the accused acted together.
The allegations against the family members have not been established in court. Police are continuing to investigate the complaint and gather evidence to determine individual responsibility.
Husband allegedly searched online before the incident
Investigators reportedly found that Mitul had searched online for information about a husband’s responsibility in a woman’s suicide case before the incident.
According to the police account, Arunaben and Mitul had a heated argument on the night of her death. Investigators suspect that the dispute was followed by an assault in which Mitul allegedly forced Arunaben onto a sofa and poured liquid nano urea into her mouth.
The substance is an agricultural product used in farming. In this case, police suspect it was administered to Arunaben during the alleged attack. The precise circumstances surrounding its use and the sequence of events are being examined as part of the investigation.
Police are also investigating allegations that other members of the household participated in the incident. According to the allegations being examined, Alpaben held Arunaben’s legs while Kailashben held her hands.
Investigators are working to establish whether these alleged actions occurred as described and what role, if any, each family member played.
Police suspect attempt to stage death as suicide
After Arunaben’s death, investigators suspect that the accused attempted to create the impression that she had died by suicide.
According to the police account, her body was allegedly suspended using a nylon rope near a window in a room at the rear of the house. Investigators suspect that the body was subsequently taken down in an effort to mislead others about the circumstances of her death.
The initial account of death by hanging came under scrutiny after the post-mortem findings reportedly indicated poisoning. The difference between the initial explanation and the medical findings became a significant part of the investigation.
Police are examining the scene and other evidence to reconstruct the events. Establishing the timing of the alleged poisoning, the handling of the body and the actions taken after the death will be important in determining whether the death was deliberately misrepresented.
The suspected attempt to stage the incident as a suicide is also being investigated alongside the allegations of harassment and the alleged involvement of multiple family members.
Evidence seized from the house
Investigators have seized several items from the scene, including a nylon rope, a mobile phone, a blade and other materials that may help establish what happened.
Police also suspect that a plastic bag containing the substance used in the alleged poisoning was burnt in the household stove. According to the account under investigation, the incident was kept concealed until the following morning.
The seized mobile phone may be relevant to inquiries into the reported online search, while the other items are being examined in the context of the suspected staging of the death.
Investigators will need to assess the physical evidence alongside the post-mortem findings, witness accounts and the complaint filed by Arunaben’s brother. These elements may help establish the sequence of events and determine whether the accused attempted to destroy evidence or conceal the cause of death.
Two detained as police investigate other family members
Mahudha police have detained Mitul Sodha and Vipul Sodha in connection with the case. Investigators are also examining the alleged roles of Kailashben and Alpaben, who were named in the complaint and in the allegations concerning the incident.
The probe is focused on establishing whether the woman was subjected to sustained harassment before her death, what happened during the reported argument and whether anyone assisted in the alleged poisoning or the subsequent attempt to make the death appear to be a suicide.
Police are continuing to examine the available evidence before determining the roles and responsibility of each person suspected of involvement.
The case highlights the seriousness of allegations involving domestic abuse and the need to investigate suspicious deaths thoroughly. For now, the findings and accusations remain subject to the ongoing investigation, and the legal responsibility of the individuals named in the case will have to be established through due process.
