A private school owner was killed in a targeted shooting in Bihar’s Samastipur district on Sunday afternoon, sending shockwaves through the region and prompting a large protest by local residents.
The deceased has been identified as Ganesh, who ran a private school in Mirzapur village and had recently entered the land business. Police said he was intercepted while returning alone on his motorcycle from Harpur Bhindi and attacked near Darjaniya Bridge. He died at the spot.
Targeted attack under investigation
Police recovered multiple empty cartridges from the scene, suggesting a planned and deliberate attack. Doctors who conducted the post-mortem confirmed that the victim sustained multiple firearm injuries.
Senior police officials said the killing appeared targeted and not random. A case has been registered, and special teams have been formed to identify and arrest those involved.
Land dispute and personal angles
According to police sources, Ganesh’s recent involvement in land dealings may have led to disputes with local individuals. Family members told investigators that a village-level meeting had earlier been held over a land-related issue.
Police are also examining a possible personal dispute angle linked to a staff member of the school. Officials clarified that all leads are being verified and no conclusion has been reached yet.
Protest blocks highway
Following the incident, angry residents blocked National Highway 28 near Gandhi Chowk, demanding swift arrests and justice. Traffic was disrupted for nearly four hours, causing inconvenience to commuters.
The situation was brought under control after senior officials from the Bihar Police reached the spot and assured strict action.
Police said further investigation is underway, and security has been increased in the area to prevent any escalation of tension.
