Kannur: A passenger train traveling from Thiruvananthapuram North to Bhavnagar struck an unidentified object placed on the railway track near Valapattanam station around 3:30 a.m. on Friday, prompting an investigation into possible sabotage.
The loco pilot reportedly heard a loud noise upon impact and immediately alerted the Valapattanam station master. Railway staff conducted a quick inspection and found that the train had collided with what was described as a “cover-type object” on the tracks.
Though the train was temporarily halted at Valapattanam, it was later deemed safe and allowed to continue its journey.
The incident has raised serious safety concerns. Both the local police and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) are now investigating whether the object was intentionally placed to disrupt rail operations.
Authorities are not ruling out foul play and are treating the matter with urgency.
