Ghaziabad: A 40-year-old psychiatrist was found dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad, with her family stating that she had been struggling with depression and emotional distress following her divorce around one-and-a-half years ago.
The deceased, identified as Dr Hemika Agrawal, was a resident of Officers City-2 Society in the Raj Nagar Extension area. According to police, she was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Family points to mental health struggles
Dr Agrawal’s family said the breakdown of her marriage had taken a significant emotional toll on her. Her father, Dr R. Chandra, a psychiatrist based in Ghaziabad, stated that his daughter had been undergoing a difficult period marked by depression and mental stress since the separation.
The incident has once again drawn attention to the importance of recognising mental health challenges and ensuring timely emotional and professional support for those experiencing distress.
Police begin investigation
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are examining all aspects of the case. Statements from family members are being recorded, while evidence from the scene is being reviewed.
Officials said they have not confirmed the recovery of any note related to the incident. Further action will be taken after the post-mortem examination and completion of the investigation.
Authorities have urged the public not to speculate until the inquiry is complete.
