Amid tight security during the vote counting for the Pune Municipal Corporation Elections 2026, Pune Police took strict action against unruly behaviour near the counting centre at Sadhana Vidyalaya, Hadapsar.
Illegal silencers and shrill horns create disturbance
According to police officials, some workers accompanying candidates deliberately used motorcycles fitted with unauthorised modified silencers and shrill horns, creating loud and disturbing noise during the counting process. The acts posed a serious risk of chaos and tension at the counting centre.
Recognising the potential threat to public peace, police personnel acted swiftly and seized 19 motorcycles, including Bullet and Yamaha bikes, from the spot.
Fines imposed under Motor Vehicles Act
Strict punitive action was taken against the riders under the Motor Vehicles Act and other applicable laws. As part of the enforcement drive, a total fine of ₹96,700 was recovered from the violators.
Police said such behaviour during sensitive democratic processes would not be tolerated and warned that further violations could invite more stringent action.
Senior officers supervise operation
The operation was carried out under the guidance of Manoj Patil, Dr Rajkumar Shinde, Atulkumar Navgire, and Sanjay Mogle.
The action team was led by Hasan Mulani, along with officers and personnel whose performance was praised by senior officials.
Police appeal to youths
Pune Police have appealed to youths not to make illegal vehicle modifications, use harsh horns or engage in activities that disturb public order, especially during elections and other sensitive civic events.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to ensuring a peaceful and secure environment during democratic processes.
