A 17-year-old minor, allegedly involved in the fatal Pune Porsche car crash that claimed the lives of two techies, has fulfilled a condition of his bail by submitting a 300-word essay on road safety, as confirmed by an official on Friday.

The teenager presented the essay to the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) on Wednesday, adhering to the board’s stipulations.

Last month, the minor was released from an observation home following a Bombay High Court ruling that deemed his previous detention orders unlawful.

Following the tragic incident in Kalyani Nagar on May 19, where the minor, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, collided with a two-wheeler resulting in the deaths of two software engineers, the JJB had initially placed him under the supervision of his parents and grandfather. Additionally, the board mandated that he write a 300-word essay focusing on road safety.

Police reports indicate that the minor was driving a Porsche at the time of the accident.

The swift bail and lenient conditions sparked nationwide outrage, prompting the police to petition the JJB to amend the bail terms. Consequently, on May 22, the board ordered the minor’s placement in an observation home.

The High Court intervened, deeming the detention orders unlawful and emphasizing strict adherence to juvenile justice laws. This paved the way for his release.
