Porsche Crash

Pune: The father of the 17-year-old boy involved in a fatal car accident that killed two people has been arrested by Pune Police from Maharashtra’s Aurangabad. The accident took place in the early hours of Sunday morning in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar area. According to police reports, a luxury Porsche, driven by the 17-year-old, collided with a motorcycle, instantly killing Anis Awadhiya and Ashwini Costa. The crash, captured on CCTV, revealed the car travelling at an estimated speed of 200 kmph in a narrow lane.Pune Commissioner of Police Amitesh Kumar reported that the minor was celebrating his class 12 exam results at a local pub, where he consumed alcohol before the accident. Since the legal drinking age in Maharashtra is 25, the bar violated the law by serving him. Consequently, the pub owners are facing charges for serving alcohol to a minor.

The incident has sparked significant public outrage, especially after the Juvenile Justice Board granted the teenager bail just 15 hours after his detention. The board imposed rehabilitative conditions, including mandatory counseling, a de-addiction program, and writing a 300-word essay on road safety. This lenient treatment has been widely criticized due to the seriousness of the crash.

In response to the bail decision, Pune police have requested the sessions court to try the juvenile as an adult, arguing that the gravity of the crime necessitates stricter judicial action. “We are taking this incident very seriously. We have charged under section 304 of IPC, which is non-bailable due to the heinous nature of the crime,” stated Commissioner Kumar.

While awaiting the sessions court’s decision, Pune police have also arrested the boy’s father, a well-known local builder, under sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act, which address willful neglect of a child and providing intoxicating substances to a minor. This arrest highlights the police’s dedication to holding all responsible parties accountable, irrespective of their social or economic status.

Additionally, legal proceedings have been initiated against the pub where the minor was seen drinking. The pub owners face serious charges for their role in serving alcohol to the minor, which contributed to the tragic outcome.
