Chandigarh Police have registered a case against an unidentified person for allegedly throwing a puppy into a burning tandoor in Bapudham Colony, resulting in the animal’s death.

The case has been registered at Sector 26 Police Station under provisions of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, along with relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). No arrests have been made so far.

Witness alleges puppy was thrown into tandoor

According to the complaint, Sanjay, a 26-year-old resident of Phase II, Bapudham Colony, was returning home around 1.40 am on Saturday when he noticed a man carrying a puppy near a dhaba.

Sanjay alleged that the man suddenly threw the puppy into a burning tandoor placed outside the eatery before fleeing the scene.

The complainant said he immediately rushed to rescue the animal and pulled it out of the tandoor. However, the puppy had already suffered fatal injuries.

Police launch investigation

After the incident, Sanjay buried the puppy near Sukhna Choe and informed the police.

Based on his statement and preliminary verification, police registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the unidentified suspect.

Investigators have begun examining CCTV footage from nearby locations in an effort to identify and trace the accused.

Search underway for suspect

Police said the investigation is ongoing and efforts are being made to establish the identity of the individual involved.

Sanjay has informed investigators that he would be able to identify the suspect if presented before him.

The incident has sparked concern among local residents and animal welfare advocates, who have called for strict action against those responsible for cruelty towards animals.
