New Delhi: Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi has intensified his attack on Union Home Minister Amit Shah, alleging that police personnel assaulted peaceful student protesters and accusing the Centre of using excessive force to suppress dissent.
In a statement shared on social media, Rahul alleged that several police officers assaulted students, including girls and minors, during protests over the alleged NEET paper leak and examination reforms.
Serious allegations against police
Rahul claimed that police personnel, including an Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, assaulted students who were protesting peacefully. He further alleged that some officers removed their name badges before using force against demonstrators.
He also alleged that videos showed police personnel breaking vehicle windows, pelting stones and allowing plain-clothed individuals armed with batons to attack protesters.
These allegations have not been independently verified, and authorities have not publicly responded to each of the specific claims.
Demands Amit Shah’s resignation
Holding the Union Home Minister politically responsible, Rahul alleged that such actions could not have taken place without approval from the highest levels of government.
He demanded Amit Shah’s resignation, stating that accountability must be fixed for the alleged police action against students.
The remarks come amid continuing protests over the alleged NEET paper leak, with the Opposition demanding a debate in Parliament and reforms to the country’s examination system.
The Central Government has maintained that it is committed to addressing students’ concerns and implementing examination reforms, while no official response has been issued to Rahul Gandhi’s latest allegations.
