A 22-year-old youth from Rajasthan’s Sikar district has lost his life in a drone attack in Oman amid the ongoing regional tensions involving Iran, the US, and Israel. The body of Vikram Verma reached his native village on Tuesday, four days after the incident, plunging the community into deep grief.

Tragedy strikes young breadwinner

Vikram Verma, a resident of Agloi village in the Khandela area, had travelled to Oman on February 23 to work as a labourer with a construction company involved in road projects. He was the sole earning member of his family and had gone abroad to support his parents and three sisters.

According to officials, he was killed in a drone strike on March 14. Sikar Additional District Magistrate Ratan Kumar confirmed the death, stating that the body has been brought back to his village.

Family devastated by loss

As Vikram’s body arrived home, emotional scenes unfolded with his father and sister breaking down in grief. Villagers and people from nearby areas gathered to pay their last respects, reflecting the deep impact of the tragedy on the community.

Shortly before the attack, Vikram had spoken to his family through a video call, reassuring them about his work and living conditions. However, he had also expressed concern over the tense situation in the region.

His father, Banwari Lal, said the family was informed about the incident by a relative working with the same company in Oman. The company later facilitated the repatriation of his body.

Rising concerns over safety of workers abroad

This incident comes amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, raising fresh concerns about the safety of Indian workers employed in conflict-prone regions.

Earlier this month, another youth from Rajasthan’s Nagaur district lost his life in a missile attack while working on a ship, highlighting the growing risks faced by migrant workers.

Call for stronger protection measures

The repeated tragedies have sparked calls for better safety protocols, timely advisories, and stronger support systems for Indians working overseas, particularly in volatile regions.

As Vikram’s family mourns an irreplaceable loss, his story stands as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by young Indians striving to secure a better future for their families.
