New Delhi: Former Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is poised to reclaim his position in Modi Cabinet 3.0.
In the recently concluded general election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) stalwart clinched victory from the Lucknow seat, defeating Samajwadi Party’s Ravidas Mehrotra by a margin of approximately 1.35 lakh votes.
Securing 6,12,709 votes, Singh emerged triumphant for the third consecutive time in the Lucknow Lok Sabha seat, while his closest competitor Mehrotra garnered 4,77,550 votes. This victory holds particular significance as it occurred despite the BJP losing the state of Uttar Pradesh, traditionally a stronghold for the party.
Lucknow Lok Sabha constituency has remained a bastion for the BJP since 1991.
Singh boasts a rich political career, having served as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the national president of the BJP, and a Union Minister in the government led by Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
The oath of office and secrecy to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his cabinet ministers will be administered by President Droupadi Murmu at 7:15 pm on Sunday, at the Rashtrapati Bhavan’s Forecourt.
