In another incident of a hit-and-run involving a high-profile individual, less than a month after the Pune Porsche accident, the daughter of a Rajya Sabha MP allegedly drove her BMW over a man sleeping on a pavement in Chennai, resulting in his death. The woman has since been granted bail.
On Monday night, Madhuri, daughter of YSR Congress Party Rajya Sabha MP Beeda Masthan Rao, was driving the BMW accompanied by a female friend. She allegedly ran over Surya, a 24-year-old painter, who was sleeping on the pavement in Besant Nagar, Chennai, in an inebriated state.
Officials reported that Madhuri fled the scene immediately, while her friend exited the car and engaged in an argument with bystanders who had gathered after the accident. She also left after some time. Some individuals from the crowd took Surya to a hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries.
In a separate statement, Sag Harbor police mentioned that Justin Timberlake was arraigned in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court and released on his own recognizance. Timberlake is scheduled to appear virtually in court on July 26.
According to the police, an officer pulled Timberlake over shortly after midnight for driving his BMW through a stop sign and failing to stay on the right side of the road. Upon investigation, it was determined that Timberlake was driving under the influence. His eyes were “bloodshot and glassy,” and he “performed poorly on all standard field sobriety tests,” CBS reported, citing court documents.
The singer-actor, currently on tour for his latest album, reportedly told police he “had one martini” and was following his friends home. Timberlake was arrested, processed, and held overnight for morning arraignment.
Timberlake, who gained fame as a member of the boy band NSYNC before transitioning to a successful solo and acting career, has won 10 Grammy awards and four Emmy awards. He is married to actress Jessica Biel, and the couple has two sons.
