A humorous mystery involving a Red kite carrying a sausage roll through the sky has now been solved after a family claimed the snack belonged to them.

The striking image, taken near Banbury, recently went viral after people wondered where the bird had found the savoury treat.

Family says bird took homemade snack

John Oxenham said he immediately recognised the pastry after seeing the widely shared picture.

He explained that he and his wife had recently visited his mother-in-law June in Kent and returned home with a container full of her homemade bakes.

According to him, some food was placed in the garden, where a red kite often visits.

He believes the bird swooped down and took a couple of June’s sausage rolls for lunch.

Viral image brings laughter

The family reportedly laughed when they saw the now-famous photo online, saying they instantly recognised the distinctive pale pastry style.

Relatives joked that it was unmistakably one of June’s creations.

Wildlife warning issued

Royal Society for the Protection of Birds said it is not illegal to feed red kites but generally advises against encouraging birds of prey into gardens.

Experts noted that red kites are natural scavengers and usually find enough food in the wild.

A light-hearted moment

The unusual sight has delighted many online, turning an everyday garden snack into an unexpected airborne headline.
