A tragic incident unfolded at the Salandi River, where a youth lost his life after attempting a risky jump from Santia bridge while filming a social media reel.

The mishap occurred around 10 a.m. on Thursday when two youths jumped into the river, reportedly to create video content. While one managed to survive, the other was swept away by the strong current.

One survives, another loses life

The two youths have been identified as Himanshu Sekhar Nayak and Mithun Nayak. Himanshu was able to swim back to safety, but Mithun was carried away by the current and went missing.

Following an extensive search operation lasting over two and a half hours, rescue teams recovered Mithun’s body from the river.

Rescue efforts and injuries

Fire and emergency personnel, along with police, rushed to the scene immediately after being alerted. Officials noted that the deceased had sustained severe injuries to the head and neck.

Police also detained the individual who was filming the video at the time of the incident.

The incident has sparked concern among local residents, who have raised alarms about the increasing trend of youths risking their lives for social media content.
