A 65-year-old retired Indian Army personnel allegedly died by suicide at his residence in Anupgarh, Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar district, leaving behind an eight-page suicide note that has triggered a sensitive police investigation. In the note, Amar Singh alleged prolonged mental harassment by three individuals and claimed that one of them repeatedly sought confidential information related to the Indian Army.
Police recovered his body on August 1 after neighbours noticed him hanging in the verandah of his house. The body was sent for post-mortem examination and later handed over to his family.
Suicide note makes serious allegations
According to the note, Amar Singh alleged that he had been mentally harassed for an extended period. He claimed one individual repeatedly demanded sensitive military information, including Army codes, postings and operational details. Describing the person as a Pakistani spy, Amar Singh wrote that he would rather sacrifice his life than betray the country.
He also claimed he feared being abducted to force him into revealing confidential Army information and urged police to take strict legal action against those he held responsible for his death.
Events leading to the incident
The note detailed how Amar Singh came into contact with a woman associated with an NGO nearly two years ago. He later assisted her in bringing a young girl to Anupgarh for admission-related work. According to the note, the situation later became complicated after the girl reportedly left home without informing her family.
In the days that followed, Amar Singh said he began receiving calls from unknown numbers. While some callers claimed to be relatives of the girl, another allegedly posed as an Army official and demanded confidential military information. He also mentioned that three unidentified men had visited his neighbourhood and that his mobile phone had been stolen days before his death.
Emotional message to family
In the final pages, Amar Singh apologised to his wife, Kalawati Devi, and requested his two sons to care for her and ensure she received proper medical attention. He also instructed that no unnecessary expenses be incurred after his death and asked that his motorcycle be given to his younger son.
Expressing his patriotism, he wrote that he could die for the country but would never reveal any Army secrets.
Police investigation underway
Anupgarh police have described the case as highly sensitive and said all allegations mentioned in the suicide note, including the claim involving a Pakistani spy, will be thoroughly investigated. Officials have stressed that the allegations have not yet been independently verified and no arrests or formal charges have been announced.
Police said the investigation is continuing from all possible angles to establish the facts surrounding the incident.
