The average citizen continues to struggle with inflation, especially as food prices rise. In Delhi, the price of tomatoes has exceeded Rs 100 per kilogram, while onions and potatoes are also causing distress due to their high prices. The cost of green vegetables has surged, making it increasingly difficult for those with limited means to afford basic meals.

Market analysts attribute the soaring costs to reduced vegetable production caused by excessive heat and supply disruptions due to rain. These factors have led to daily price increases.

According to a Moneycontrol report citing data from the Central Department of Consumer Affairs, tomatoes are priced at Rs 100 per kilogram at Mother Dairy’s retail outlet ‘Safal’ in New Delhi, and Rs 93 per kg in other markets. On July 20, the average price of tomatoes across the country was Rs 73.76 per kg. The retail price of onions at Safal stores in West Delhi was Rs 46.90 per kg, with a national average of Rs 44.16 per kg. Potatoes were priced at Rs 41.90 per kg in Delhi, with a national average of Rs 37.22 per kg.

Mother Dairy’s prices for various vegetables on Saturday included bottle gourd at Rs 59 per kg, bitter gourd at Rs 49 per kg, beans at Rs 89 per kg, ladyfinger at Rs 49 per kg, tinda at Rs 119 per kg, green capsicum at Rs 119 per kg, small brinjal at Rs 49-59 per kg, pointed gourd at Rs 49 per kg, and arbi at Rs 69 per kg.
