An incident occurred late Wednesday night in Bihar’s Purnea involving a vehicle from the convoy of Tejashwi Yadav, a member of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Regrettably, the driver of the escort vehicle, identified as home guard Haleem Alam according to Live Hindustan, lost his life in the accident, while six policemen accompanying the convoy sustained injuries. The injured individuals are currently receiving medical attention at the Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) in Purnea.

According to footage released by PTI, a collision transpired between one of Yadav’s convoy cars and another vehicle, resulting in significant damage to the front of the car. An escort policeman provided details, stating, “One of our escort cars was involved in an accident under the jurisdiction of the Mufassil police station. The driver of the car succumbed to his injuries on the scene, while the remaining six police officials sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at GMCH Hospital. The investigation into the incident is ongoing.”

Yadav is presently undertaking a ‘Jan Vishwas Yatra,’ which commenced on February 20 with plans to traverse all 38 districts of the state over an 11-day period.

As reported by Aaj Tak, the accident took place near Bilauri Panorama Height in Purnia. A vehicle from Yadav’s Jan Vishwas Yatra convoy reportedly lost control, crossed over a divider, and collided with an oncoming vehicle. Reportedly, three occupants of the impacted vehicle suffered severe injuries and have been admitted to the hospital. Several of the injured individuals are said to be in critical condition.

In addition to the six policemen injured, three men and a woman from the other vehicle involved in the collision were also injured and subsequently hospitalized at GMCH.

Further investigation into the incident is currently underway, as stated by the escort police.

Yadav’s outreach campaign preceding the Lok Sabha polls follows his party’s recent loss of power on January 28, when Chief Minister Nitish Kumar severed ties with the RJD and aligned with the BJP to establish a new government. Yadav previously served as the deputy CM in the coalition government led by Nitish Kumar from August 2022 until last month.
