A 26-year-old Railway Protection Force (RPF) sub-inspector died after falling from the moving Mumbai Mail near a railway yard under the limits of Alinagar police station in Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday morning
Body found near railway yard
The deceased has been identified as Vishal Tiwari, a sub-inspector with the Railway Protection Force. His mutilated body was recovered from the railway tracks near the down yard old car shed at kilometre pole number 673/8.
Confirming the incident, Circle Officer (Chandauli–PDDU Nagar) Arun Kumar Singh said the body was sent for post-mortem examination and further investigation is underway to determine the exact circumstances under which the officer fell from the train.
Journey cut short
Preliminary investigations by the police, RPF and the Government Railway Police revealed that Tiwari was a resident of the Jakhaniya area in Mau district. He had completed his RPF training around six months ago and was posted at Rafiganj in Bihar.
On Tuesday, he was travelling on the Mumbai Mail to reach Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay Junction. During the journey, he reportedly fell from the moving train and died on the spot.
Investigation underway
Officials said it is not yet clear whether the fall was accidental or occurred due to other reasons such as overcrowding, imbalance, or a medical emergency. No foul play has been suspected so far, but all angles are being examined.
Railway authorities and police are also checking train movement records and speaking to railway staff to reconstruct the sequence of events.
Condolences and safety concerns
The death of the young RPF officer has cast a pall of gloom among colleagues and family members. Fellow personnel described Vishal Tiwari as a dedicated officer who had recently begun his field posting after training.
The incident has once again drawn attention to safety concerns related to train travel, especially for personnel commuting long distances for duty.
Police said further action will be taken after the post-mortem report is received.
