In a sweeping crackdown on online cricket betting during the IPL season, Kurnool District Police apprehended seven individuals and seized ₹91 lakh in cash, along with seven mobile phones used for managing illegal betting activities.
This decisive action followed stern instructions from Kurnool SP Vikrant Patil, who had earlier voiced grave concerns over the increasing involvement of youth in online betting. During a recent crime review meeting, the SP pointed out the financial and psychological damage being inflicted on young individuals, some of whom had fallen into debt or even died by suicide.
The first breakthrough came on May 18, 2025, when, acting on a tip-off, Adoni DSP M Hemalatha directed Adoni I Town CI K Sri Ram to raid a location near Valmiki Temple in Valmiki Nagar. One person, SR Nagaraj, was arrested with ₹50,000 in cash. A formal case was filed under Crime No. 79/2025 under sections of the BNS and the Andhra Pradesh Gaming Act.
Using advanced tech and intelligence networks, the investigation spread across Kurnool, Hyderabad, Ongole, Chilakaluripet, and Bengaluru. On May 30 at 11:30 a.m., the main operation near Yellamma Konda in Adoni led to the arrest of seven key operatives and recovery of ₹91 lakh in cash.
The arrested include Ismail Masidupur, Boyi Mahanandi, Boyi Ramesh, S Rajesh, Chundi Srinivasa Rao, Addala Kalyan, and Raghu Achari Ayij. They were allegedly operating through five betting platforms: National Exchange 9, Radhe Exchange, Vajra Exchange, National 777, and More Exchange.
