Rumors of a ‘chudail’ (witch) allegedly roaming around Jalpally, located near Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, have sparked fear among local residents. The rumors began circulating after videos and an audio clip surfaced on social media, with claims of a young man being chased and attacked by the witch. The clip, which has since gone viral, describes the victim being pursued for some distance and allegedly left injured, now reportedly receiving treatment at a private hospital. The narrator further warns people to avoid the Jalpally area at night due to the supposed presence of the ‘chudail.’
The videos, although unclear, depict strange noises that resemble someone walking on dry grass with an ankle bracelet, accompanied by eerie cries. A picture of a young man with visible injuries, supposedly from the attack, further fueled the growing anxiety among viewers. The videos quickly spread across social media, especially among the NRI community, particularly those living in the Middle East.
However, local authorities have dismissed the claims as mere rumors. Pahadishareef Inspector P. Guruva Reddy stated that no such incident has been reported at the police station recently. He emphasized that the police are aware of the situation and are working to identify those responsible for spreading these false stories. The inspector warned that legal action would be taken against the individuals involved in inciting panic through rumor mongering.
Despite the official dismissal, curious onlookers have been visiting Jalpally during the night in hopes of witnessing the alleged ‘chudail,’ adding to the ongoing public hysteria.
