School reopening celebrations took a tragic turn at the Kondamallepally Zilla Parishad (ZP) Government High School when a 13-year-old boy suffered a severe electric shock while helping with decoration work on the campus.
The victim, identified as V Ram Charan, is a Class 8 student at a nearby private school. According to reports, he was playing on the school grounds as his family resides adjacent to the campus.
Boy electrocuted while decorating school entrance
According to local accounts, teachers preparing for school reopening celebrations allegedly asked the boy to assist in decorating the main entrance gate with mango leaves and flower garlands.
While climbing the gate, Charan reportedly came into contact with high-voltage overhead power lines located dangerously close to the structure.
The powerful electric shock threw him off the gate, causing him to fall to the ground and suffer serious head injuries.
Teachers and local residents immediately rushed the injured boy to the Devarakonda Government Hospital for emergency treatment.
Child under intensive care
Medical sources said Charan is currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) and remains under close observation.
Doctors have reportedly placed him under a critical 48-hour monitoring period due to the severity of his injuries.
The incident has raised serious concerns about safety measures in and around educational institutions, particularly where electrical infrastructure is located near school premises.
Protests erupt over alleged negligence
The incident triggered protests from local residents and student organisations, who accused school authorities of negligence.
Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) condemned the alleged decision to involve a child in decoration work near hazardous power lines.
Residents claimed that authorities were aware of the proximity of the high-voltage cables and should have ensured adequate safety precautions.
Protesters have demanded a thorough investigation and strict action against those found responsible for the incident.
