New Delhi: Next time when you click a risky selfie think twice for insurance companies are considering excluding deaths or injuries caused while taking selfie.
The nation has already witnessed several selfie deaths and now the insurance companies have decided not to motivate the dangerous habit. They are seriously considering stopping the insurance coverage for the selfie deaths or injuries.
The ICICI Lombard States website has published that there is no exact statistics regarding deaths caused by the selfie, but it is estimated that around 54 people have died because of the habit. Along with this, the company has decided not to give risk coverage for such incidents. Similarly, The Customer Care of Tata AIG General Insurance Company has published that the deaths caused due to selfie craze will not be considered as accidents.
The Indian Registration and Development Authority (IRDAI) had published new instructions regarding the health insurance in July 2016, but it didn’t mention selfie incidents. It means the accidents or the injuries during selfie are not considered for insurance. They will be considered as negligence or recklessness.
The spokesperson of another insurance company said that most of the companies don’t give insurance for the deaths-injuries happening during adventure activities. Selfie is considered as negligence and chances of getting insurance amount is less. If at all the company agrees to give, the family members of the dead should submit all documents including the FIR, he added.
