Selfless teenage girl donates her body for research

Mangaluru: A role model of selflessness for youngsters, a 10th standard girl student has donated her body for scientific research.

The girl’s name is Prathiksha and she is just 16 years of age. Daughter of Kumaraswamy Kokkada and Vandana residing in Ashoknagar, she was a brilliant student and was ailing from a chronic disease. When she understood that her death was imminent, she requested her parents to donate her body as her last wish.

Her wish was fulfilled on Thursday, November 1 when she breathed her last.

She is survived by her parents, her elder brother Prajwal who is a second-year student at the St Aloysius College in the city and her twin brother Preetham.

Previously, when she was in her sixth standard she was diagnosed with a form of bone cancer and underwent treatment for the illness which lasted for two years post which she had completely recovered. However her condition had relapsed within a year but nonetheless, she continued to fight the brave fight.

Her father commented that traditionally Bhramans did not donate their bodies but they decided to break the mould to fulfil their daughter’s last wish.
