In a late-night crackdown, the Kalamassery police, assisted by the District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF), conducted a surprise raid at the Government Polytechnic College hostel in Kochi.
During the operation, authorities apprehended Aashiq, a semester-out student, for allegedly smuggling a substantial quantity of cannabis into the hostel premises. Officials revealed that nearly 2 kilograms of marijuana were confiscated from his possession.
Investigators suspect that the contraband was meant for distribution among students in preparation for the Holi celebrations. Law enforcement officers are delving into the case further to determine the extent of the drug supply chain and its possible reach within the campus.
To establish a broader link, authorities are scrutinizing financial transactions of students potentially associated with the accused. Officials believe this may uncover deeper involvement in illicit narcotics dealings.
The police emphasized that stringent actions will be taken against those found guilty. They also urged students to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could compromise the safety and well-being of their peers.
The investigation remains active, and further arrests cannot be ruled out as authorities intensify efforts to curb drug proliferation in educational institutions.
