In a disturbing incident from Odisha’s Gajapati district, a peon at the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation (RWSS) Department has been arrested for allegedly handing over a bottle filled with urine to a senior officer in place of drinking water.
The accused, Siba Narayan Nayak, was taken into custody by the R Udayagiri police after Assistant Executive Engineer Sachin Gouda filed a formal complaint. The shocking event reportedly took place on the night of July 23, while both were working overtime at the RWSS office.
According to Gouda’s complaint, he had requested a bottle of water, which Nayak allegedly provided. Due to dim lighting and fatigue, Gouda unknowingly drank from the bottle, only to realize moments later that the liquid tasted strange. Soon after, he experienced severe discomfort and began to feel sick.
He was immediately taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for medical attention. Suspecting foul play, Gouda sent the liquid for laboratory testing, which revealed abnormally high ammonia levels, pointing to urine contamination.
Following his recovery, Gouda formally reported the matter to police. Authorities swiftly detained and arrested Nayak. Gouda also stated that two colleagues, who shared the water, noticed unusual taste and symptoms as well.
A case has been filed under relevant IPC sections, and an investigation is underway to uncover Nayak’s motive behind the act.
