Visakhapatnam: A six-year-old boy died after collapsing inside a classroom at a private school in the Town Kotharoad locality under One-Town police station limits in Visakhapatnam on Thursday. His family has alleged that he was beaten by a woman teacher for not completing his homework.
The deceased student has been identified as Pranay Tej, a student of Little Garden School.
Video of classroom incident goes viral
A video of the incident has gone viral on social media. The footage reportedly shows the teacher admonishing the boy and later slapping him.
The child subsequently collapsed onto the teacher’s lap.
He was taken to KG Hospital in Visakhapatnam, where doctors declared him dead.
Family demands strict action
The boy’s parents and other family members alleged that he collapsed after being beaten by the teacher. They staged a protest at KG Hospital, demanding stringent action against the teacher and the school management.
The allegations have prompted concern over the safety of children in schools and the need for appropriate measures to prevent such incidents.
Police await post-mortem report
Police and revenue officials visited the school and KG Hospital and began investigating the circumstances surrounding the boy’s death.
Police said the exact medical cause of death is expected to be established only after the post-mortem examination report. Investigators are examining the available evidence, including the video of the incident.
Andhra Pradesh HRD Minister Nara Lokesh expressed deep condolences over the death and said action would be initiated against the school management.
The investigation is continuing, while authorities await the medical findings to establish the circumstances leading to the child’s death.
