A six-year-old boy allegedly died during an MRI procedure at a private diagnostic centre in Greater Noida on Thursday, with his family accusing the facility of gross medical negligence and administering excessive sedation.
According to police, a complaint was filed at Beta 2 police station around 4 pm the same day. The child, a resident of Dungarpur village, had suffered a mild seizure 15–20 days earlier and had recovered fully after treatment at a private hospital. Doctors later advised precautionary MRI and EEG tests.
Allegations of excessive sedation
The MRI was conducted at KB Healthcare in Sector Phi-III, Greater Noida. The boy’s father, Vickey, a farmer, stated in his complaint that his son was normal and playful on the day of the scan.
He alleged that complications began during the procedure. According to the complaint, staff demanded additional money and informed relatives that the child would need to be sedated again. Despite objections, a second dose of medication was reportedly administered.
The family further claimed there was a delay in responding to the child’s deteriorating condition. They alleged that he remained inside the procedure room for nearly half an hour after the second dose. When relatives entered, they found him motionless.
He was shifted to another private hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival around 10.30 am.
Centre sealed, inquiry ordered
Police said an FIR will be registered after the medical inquiry report is received, in line with Supreme Court guidelines in cases of alleged medical negligence.
Chief Medical Officer of Gautam Budh Nagar, Dr Narendra Kumar, confirmed that a four-member inquiry committee has been constituted and the diagnostic centre has been sealed pending investigation.
Following the incident, local farmers staged a protest demanding strict action and accountability. Authorities have assured that further legal steps will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry.
