A human-like skull was detected in a passenger’s handbag during a security check at Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Monday, after which the passenger reportedly claimed that it belonged to a monkey.

The passenger was scheduled to travel from Delhi to Hyderabad. During the pre-embarkation security screening, CISF personnel noticed a suspicious object inside the handbag and conducted a detailed inspection.

Skull recovered during security check

The CISF personnel reportedly recovered a skull concealed inside the passenger’s hand baggage. When questioned, the passenger told officials that it was a monkey’s skull.

The passenger was subsequently handed over to the local police for further investigation. The recovered skull has been secured and will be examined to establish its nature and origin.

Wildlife law invoked

Officials said the case involves wildlife and proceedings will be initiated under the provisions of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972.

Authorities are now investigating where the passenger obtained the skull and why it was being carried from Delhi to Hyderabad.

The incident has also highlighted the role of airport security checks in detecting unusual or potentially prohibited items in passenger baggage.
