In a deeply unsettling incident from Jaipur, a man delayed his mother’s cremation by nearly two hours over a dispute regarding her silver bangles. The man, Omprakash, lay down on the funeral pyre, refusing to let the cremation proceed until his demand was met.
The deceased, Bhuri Devi, mother of seven sons, passed away on May 3. While six of her sons lived together in the village, Omprakash, the fifth son, stayed separately and had reportedly been in a property dispute with his brothers for 3–4 years.
As part of the funeral preparations, Bhuri Devi’s jewellery was removed and handed to her eldest son, Girdhari. However, at the crematorium, Omprakash suddenly demanded his share, specifically the silver bangles. When denied, he lay on the wooden pyre, declaring, “I will die with my mother.”
The family and villagers tried to reason with him, but Omprakash stood firm, causing the cremation to be delayed. His mother’s body, wrapped in a pink saree, remained on the ground nearby as emotions ran high.
Eventually, the family relented. The bangles were brought to the cremation ground and handed over to Omprakash, after which he allowed the final rites to proceed.
A video of the entire episode has since gone viral, sparking outrage and disbelief. No police case has been filed.
