A 30-year-old man was arrested within hours after allegedly stealing his mother’s gold ornaments from their home in Maharashtra’s Latur district, police said.

The complainant, Sunita Dagdu Bhamre (50), a resident of Bhadgaon in Latur tehsil, had approached the police on Monday stating that an unidentified person had broken into her house and stolen gold ornaments, including a necklace, six rings and two pairs of earrings.

Swift police action

Following the complaint, police initiated an investigation involving spot inspection, local intelligence inputs, verification of suspects and technical analysis. During the course of the probe, suspicion fell on her son, Prashant Bhamre (30), a daily-wage labourer.

Officials said he was traced and apprehended within three hours of the complaint being registered.

Confession and recovery

During sustained questioning, Prashant reportedly confessed to committing the theft. Police found that he had stolen the ornaments and concealed them inside a cupboard at his own residence.

The valuables were recovered and returned to his mother.

Police officials stated that further legal action is being taken as per procedure.

The incident has drawn attention in the locality, with residents expressing surprise over the theft within the family. Authorities reiterated the importance of swift reporting of crimes to enable timely investigation and recovery.
