MADURAI: In a bold and shocking act, two men stormed into the V Chatrapatti police station in Madurai district around 1 am on Saturday and vandalised the premises, sparking serious concerns over the safety of on-duty police personnel.
The attack was allegedly led by M Prabhakaran alias ‘Porali’ Prabhakaran, a notorious history-sheeter, accompanied by his friend. Enraged over the detention of his father Muthuvel by Dindigul police for questioning, Prabhakaran barged into the station under the influence of alcohol. One of the men pulled out a machete, threatened head constable Palpandi, and damaged furniture and a computer before fleeing.
Superintendent of Police BK Arvind inspected the site and launched an enquiry. “The accused forcibly entered and engaged in a heated confrontation before launching the attack,” he stated.
Further investigation revealed that Prabhakaran, who has 15 serious criminal cases — including murder and dacoity — across Madurai and Virudhunagar districts, was seeking revenge for what he claimed was his father’s unjust detention.
Four special police teams under the Peraiyur DySP have been formed to track and arrest the absconding duo. CCTV footage is being reviewed as part of the ongoing hunt.
