Hyderabad: Several people were injured after a speeding Ferrari, allegedly driven by businessman Kranti Reddy, lost control and rammed multiple vehicles in Hyderabad’s upscale Jubilee Hills area on Sunday.
According to police, the accident occurred when the luxury sports car reportedly suffered a brake failure and steering lock, causing the driver to lose control. The vehicle veered onto the wrong side of the road before crashing into cars and two-wheelers travelling in the opposite direction.
Multiple vehicles damaged
The impact of the collision was severe, leaving several cars and motorcycles badly damaged. The Ferrari also sustained extensive damage to its front portion. Eyewitnesses said the crash created panic among commuters in the busy locality, known for its residential and commercial establishments.
Police said people travelling in the opposite direction suffered injuries in the accident and were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals. Authorities confirmed that the injured are out of danger.
A light mast installed in the median of the road was also hit during the incident and toppled to one side, adding to the disruption.
Traffic disruption in the area
Soon after receiving information about the crash, police personnel rushed to the spot and initiated rescue and traffic management operations. The damaged vehicles were cleared from the roadway to restore vehicular movement.
Traffic in Jubilee Hills was severely affected for some time, with vehicles being diverted to alternative routes to ease congestion. Commuters faced delays as authorities worked to remove debris and assess structural damage to the road infrastructure.
Case registered, probe underway
A case has been registered based on a complaint filed by one of the victims. Police officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the exact cause of the accident, including whether mechanical failure led to the crash or if other factors such as overspeeding were involved.
The incident comes amid increasing concerns over reckless driving and overspeeding, particularly involving high-end luxury vehicles. In recent months, several accidents across major cities have sparked debate over stricter enforcement of traffic laws and closer scrutiny of drivers of premium and sports cars.
Authorities said they will examine the vehicle and collect technical reports to determine whether the claimed brake failure and steering malfunction contributed to the mishap.
