Speeding Truck Hits Stationary Vehicle on EPE, Killing 4, 18 injured

Four brick kiln workers were killed and 18 others injured after their stationary vehicle was struck from behind by a speeding truck on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway (EPE) near Muradnagar in Ghaziabad. The collision occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, police reported.

The workers were traveling from Ganaur in Sonipat, Haryana, to Uttar Pradesh in a mini truck when the accident happened around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday. The incident fell under the jurisdiction of the Muradnagar police station.

“The mini truck was parked on the roadside on the EPE near Rewri Rewra when a speeding truck failed to notice the stationary vehicle and crashed into its rear,” said Virendra Kumar, additional deputy commissioner of police (traffic). “Four people died on the spot, and 18 others were injured.”

The injured were initially taken to the nearby community health centre in Muradnagar and subsequently referred to the district hospital in Ghaziabad. Nine of the 18 injured were later transferred to GTB Hospital in Delhi for advanced treatment, Kumar added.

The deceased have been identified as Maya Devi (45), Mohammad Irshad (30), Najuman (60), and Shameena (20), all from Shahjahanpur and Hardoi in Uttar Pradesh.

Vivek Chandra Yadav, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) (rural), stated that the police are reviewing CCTV footage to determine whether the mini truck was properly parked and to assess the responsibility of the truck driver involved in the crash. He noted that no formal complaint had been received regarding the incident.
