Kurnool: Srisailam police have filed a case against a man accused of spreading false and defamatory information about the laddu prasadam distributed at the Sri Bhramaramba Mallikarjuna Swamy temple.
Following a formal complaint by temple Executive Officer (EO) M Srinivasa Rao, the police registered a case against K Saras Chandra, a resident of Kalugolammapet in Kavali, Nellore district.
According to Srisailam Circle Inspector G Prasada Rao, the accused claimed on June 29 that a cockroach was found inside a laddu obtained from the temple counter. He allegedly posted the claim on social media, demanding an investigation and improvements in food hygiene practices.
The viral post caused public concern, with many devotees expressing distress since the laddu is considered a sacred offering. Police stated that such remarks offended religious sentiments and were disrespectful to Hindu beliefs. “We’ve filed a case under appropriate sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita related to protection of religious sentiments,” Inspector Prasada Rao confirmed.
EO Srinivasa Rao refuted the accusations, highlighting that the laddu preparation process is ISO 22000 certified and meets stringent food safety standards. He emphasized that all kitchen staff wear protective gear and the preparation area is under 24/7 CCTV surveillance.
The temple administration has called the claims baseless and detrimental to the institution’s sanctity. Officials urged devotees to address any concerns directly with temple authorities instead of posting on social media, which could lead to misinformation and unrest.
