A 17-year-old boy preparing for his Std X board examinations lost his life after being gored by a bull during an illegal bullfight in Alegao village of Kandhar taluka on Sunday evening.
Police identified the victim as Khandu Ramchandra Jhampalwad, who belonged to a family of sugarcane cutters. Officials said his parents worked as daily wage labourers, and despite financial hardships, Khandu was studying for his SSC exams while assisting his family with farm activities.
Bull charges into spectators
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred during the final round of the bullfight when one of the animals suddenly went out of control and charged towards the gathered spectators.
“Khandu, who was among them, was struck with force and died on the spot,” a spectator told police.
The tragic incident has left the village in shock, with many expressing grief over the untimely death of a young student striving to complete his education.
FIR to be registered
Abinash Kumar, Superintendent of Police, Nanded, has directed local authorities to register an FIR against the organisers of the illegal event as well as the owner of the bull.
Earlier, assistant inspector Sanjay Nilpatrewar of the Usmannagar police station stated that an accidental death (AD) case had initially been registered. Police have recorded the statement of the victim’s cousin, who was present during the incident.
Officials said further legal action will be initiated after reviewing the complaint filed by the family.
The tragedy has once again raised serious concerns about the dangers of unauthorised bullfights and the risks posed to public safety, particularly when large crowds gather without proper safeguards in place.
