Greater Noida: A potentially major accident was averted on the Eastern Peripheral Expressway near Chaksenpur in Uttar Pradesh‘s Greater Noida after large stones allegedly dumped from overloaded trucks blocked the roadway, damaging several vehicles and causing significant traffic disruption.
The incident occurred on the busy expressway stretch under the Dadri police station limits, where motorists suddenly encountered massive stones scattered across the carriageway. The obstruction led to panic among drivers and resulted in long traffic queues during peak travel hours.
According to reports, some truck drivers allegedly unloaded the stones onto the highway after fearing action by Regional Transport Office (RTO) officials against overloaded vehicles.
Vehicles damaged as motorists hit debris
Several cars and other vehicles travelling along the expressway reportedly ran over the stones before drivers could react.
The impact caused punctured tyres and minor damage to multiple vehicles, leaving numerous commuters stranded on the roadside. The situation worsened due to soaring temperatures, with passengers forced to wait for extended periods as traffic movement slowed considerably.
Many motorists expressed frustration over the unexpected obstruction on a high-speed corridor designed for smooth and uninterrupted travel.
Traffic congestion stretches for kilometres
The presence of large stones on the roadway caused severe congestion, with vehicles moving slowly through the affected section.
Traffic queues reportedly extended for a considerable distance as authorities worked to assess the situation and initiate clearance operations. Commuters faced delays while officials diverted and regulated traffic to prevent further incidents.
The disruption highlighted the potential danger posed by unauthorised unloading of materials on major highways.
Police and traffic teams launch clearance operation
After receiving information about the incident, teams from the Dadri police station and the traffic department rushed to the spot.
Authorities deployed a JCB machine and workers to remove the heavy stones from the expressway and restore normal traffic flow. Officials worked for several hours to clear the carriageway and ensure the route was safe for motorists.
Traffic personnel coordinated movement through the affected stretch while clearance operations were underway.
Assistance provided to stranded motorists
To help drivers whose vehicles were damaged by the debris, officials arranged puncture repair facilities at the site.
The temporary assistance enabled affected motorists to repair tyres and resume their journeys without having to travel long distances in search of repair services.
Police and traffic authorities also assisted commuters and monitored the situation to prevent secondary accidents during the clearance process.
Investigation launched into dumping of stones
Officials noted that the sudden appearance of large stones on a high-speed expressway could have resulted in a serious accident if timely action had not been taken.
An investigation has been launched to identify the truck drivers allegedly responsible for dumping the stones on the road. Authorities are examining available evidence and gathering information to determine how the incident occurred.
Police said strict legal action will be taken against those found responsible for endangering public safety and causing disruption on the expressway.
The incident has once again raised concerns over overloaded vehicles and the need for stricter enforcement of transport regulations to ensure the safety of road users.
