A disturbing incident has come to light in Gurugram after stray dogs dug up the buried body of a newborn in the H-block area of DLF Phase-I, prompting police to launch an investigation into who had secretly disposed of the body.
The infant’s body was discovered on Saturday after a local employee reportedly noticed stray dogs digging into the soil near a green belt at around 12.30 pm. The dogs were seen pulling at a blood-stained piece of cloth. When the man chased them away, he found the body of a male infant buried underneath.
Police begin investigation
The man alerted the police control room following the discovery. Emergency response teams reached the spot and recovered the body, which was subsequently shifted to a government mortuary.
Police said the infant appeared to have been born only a day or two earlier, with the umbilical cord reportedly still attached. Investigators are now examining CCTV footage from nearby residential buildings to establish who buried the child and when.
FIR registered against unidentified persons
An FIR has been registered at the DLF Phase-I police station against unidentified suspects under Section 94 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with concealment of birth through secret disposal of a dead body.
Police said the infant’s body will be preserved at the government mortuary for 72 hours before further action is taken, as investigators work to establish the circumstances surrounding the death and disposal.
The incident has raised concerns about the circumstances that led to a newborn being secretly buried in a residential area. Police are examining available evidence and CCTV recordings as part of their efforts to identify those responsible.
