A 58-year-old sub-inspector, Virendra Kumar Mishra, tragically lost his life after the roof of the ACP office in Ghaziabad’s Ankur Vihar collapsed during violent storms and torrential rain early Sunday morning.

Mishra, who served as the personal assistant to the ACP, was asleep when the ceiling gave way. His body was discovered buried beneath rubble after fellow officers arrived at the office. He was pulled from the debris and rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

Confirming the incident, Additional Police Commissioner Alok Priyadarshi said the officer had been posted at the Ankur Vihar office and that the tragedy was likely triggered by the intense weather conditions overnight.

ACP Jay Kumar Singh added that Mishra’s family, originally from Etawah and currently living in Delhi, had been informed and reached the site. Authorities are currently conducting further investigations into the structural failure.

The storm struck amidst a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), warning of severe thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching 40-60 km/h. The weather chaos hit multiple areas across Delhi-NCR and Haryana’s Jhajjar, especially between 1:30 and 3:00 am, toppling trees and damaging infrastructure.

This incident underscores the urgent need for inspections of government buildings, especially in light of increasingly frequent and intense weather patterns.
