In a disturbing case of cybercrime, the Erode All Women Police arrested a taxi driver for allegedly circulating a morphed and obscene image of a 15-year-old girl through WhatsApp.

The accused, identified as S. Manikandan from the Sankarapuram area of Kallakurichi district, reportedly committed the offence while working in Erode. During his time there, Manikandan became acquainted with a family from his native Kallakurichi district who were residing in Erode.

According to police, Manikandan took a photo of the family’s teenage daughter, digitally altered it in an inappropriate manner, and sent it directly to the girl’s WhatsApp number. Shocked and distressed, the minor immediately informed her parents.

Her family lodged a formal complaint with the Erode All Women Police Station on Friday. Swift action followed, and Manikandan was taken into custody later that night. He was remanded to judicial custody on Saturday morning.

Authorities have reiterated the serious legal consequences of such acts, especially involving minors, under the POCSO Act and IT Act.

The case highlights growing concerns over digital safety for children and the importance of vigilant parental monitoring and prompt reporting.
