Ballia: A 50-year-old teacher at a government composite school in Ballia district has been arrested for allegedly molesting a Class 5 student, police said. An FIR was registered following a complaint by the girl’s mother under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The incident reportedly occurred on Thursday when the minor went to school in a village falling under the Sukhpara police station limits. Police alleged that the teacher, identified as Manoj Rai, committed obscene acts and molested the student.
Police begin investigation
Sukhpara Station House Officer Ratnesh Dubey confirmed that the accused teacher had been arrested following the complaint. The investigation will now proceed under the provisions invoked in the FIR.
The case has also prompted attention from the education department. District Basic Shiksha Adhikari Manish Kumar Singh said he was aware of the matter and had sought a report from the Block Education Officer. Departmental action against the teacher is expected after the report is submitted.
