A tragic road accident in Bihar’s Bhojpur district claimed the life of a 35-year-old government school teacher on Saturday morning, while her twin babies escaped unhurt. The incident occurred under the Sikarhatta police station limits when a concrete mixer detached from a speeding pickup van and rammed into the autorickshaw in which she was travelling.

Accident on Bihiya–Bihta highway

The deceased has been identified as Roshan Jahan, a resident of Azimabad in Bhojpur district. She was travelling with her twin babies and her mother, Nasima Khatoon, when the accident occurred around 9.30 am near the Sikraul fuel station on the Bihiya–Bihta state highway.

According to eyewitnesses, the concrete mixer separated from the pickup van and struck the autorickshaw with force, causing it to overturn. Roshan Jahan sustained grievous injuries and was rushed to the Piro Community Health Centre, where she succumbed to her injuries.

Mother injured, babies safe

Police said her mother was seriously injured in the accident and was later referred to Ara Sadar Hospital for advanced treatment. The twin babies — a boy and a girl — narrowly escaped without injuries, a fact that brought some solace amid the tragedy.

Police search for drivers

Sikarhatta SHO Sanoj Kumar said both the pickup van driver and the autorickshaw driver fled the scene after the accident. Police have seized the concrete mixer involved and launched a search to trace the absconding drivers.

Family tragedy

Roshan Jahan, who was posted as a teacher at Sikanderpur near Danapur in Patna, had become a mother to twins after 14 years of marriage. She had recently come to her parental home in Sikarhatta Khurd following childbirth. On Saturday morning, she was travelling to Piro to get her children vaccinated against polio when the fatal accident occurred.

Police said further investigation is underway, and strict action will be taken once the accused drivers are apprehended.
