City police detained an 18-year-old son of a madrasa administrator for allegedly assaulting an 11-year-old girl over a minor issue. Mohammed Hassan, from Thanisandra, was arrested following a complaint filed by the girl’s mother. The girl, a student at the madrasa where Hassan’s mother serves as the head, resides there temporarily, while her parents, who are self-employed, live in Yeshwantpur.
The girl’s mother stated that her daughter had joined the madrasa in July 2024. On February 18, she received a call from a madrasa staff member about an incident that had occurred two days earlier. Upon arriving at the madrasa, Hassan was not present. The girl explained that while playing, some children spilled rice, which led to Hassan becoming upset. When he asked the girl why she wasn’t cleaning, she replied that she hadn’t spilled the rice. According to the girl’s account, this response led to Hassan allegedly becoming violent.
Although Hassan’s mother denied the accusations, CCTV footage later confirmed the girl’s account of the incident. Hassan was arrested and charged under the Juvenile Justice Act and sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 115 (Voluntarily causing hurt). After being held for one day, Hassan was presented before a court and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
