Pune: Police in Maharashtra’s Pune district have taken a 17-year-old boy into custody for allegedly attempting to run over a woman with his car following a heated argument. The incident unfolded in Vadgaon Ghenand village, Alandi area, on Saturday, sparking comparisons to a recent high-profile case involving a juvenile in Pune’s Kalyani Nagar.
In the earlier incident on May 19, a juvenile driving a Porsche collided with a motorbike in Kalyani Nagar, resulting in the deaths of two IT professionals. The juvenile remains in a correctional facility, while his parents, both doctors, and an alleged middleman are in judicial custody.
In the incident, a video circulating on social media captures the reckless driving of a car that eventually struck a woman. Prior to the collision, the boy reportedly verbally abused the woman’s husband and father-in-law. He then entered his car and allegedly threatened the couple before driving off in a reckless manner, leading to the collision which caused the woman minor injuries.
“The juvenile has been apprehended and presented before the Juvenile Justice Board, which has ordered his placement in an observation home. We have also requested to treat the minor as an adult in this case,” stated a Pimpri Chinchwad police official.
The incident has been registered at the Alandi police station, with the minor facing charges under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 307 for attempted murder, along with violations of the Motor Vehicles Act, according to police sources.
