In a heartbreaking hit-and-run accident in New Delhi, a 14-year-old student died while speaking to his father on the phone moments before the crash.

The victim, Abhav Bhatia, was returning home after watching an IPL match between Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Monday evening.

His 20-year-old cousin, Yagya Bhatia, who was riding the motorcycle, also lost his life in the accident.

Call ended in silence after crash

According to police and family members, Abhav had called his father to say he was on the way home.

While the conversation was still ongoing, a truck allegedly rammed into their motorcycle from behind near Ashoka Road.

The phone reportedly slipped from Abhav’s hand and the call suddenly went silent. Moments later, an unknown person answered the phone and informed the family that an accident had occurred.

Both declared dead at hospital

Emergency teams rushed to the spot and shifted the two victims to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.

Doctors declared both victims brought dead.

Eyewitnesses said the impact of the collision threw the riders and the motorcycle onto the road.

Truck seized, driver absconding

Police said the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the crash.

The vehicle was later traced to the trans-Yamuna area and seized, while efforts are under way to arrest the accused driver.

Family seeks justice

The family has demanded strict action, describing the deaths as a devastating and irreparable loss.
