A 17-year-old Class XII student who regularly uploaded humorous videos in Haryanvi on social media was found dead at his residence in Haryana’s Jhajjar district, police said on Monday. The incident has once again drawn attention to academic stress and mental health challenges faced by teenagers.

The deceased, Punit, was a resident of Dubaldhan village and studied at a private academy in the area. According to police, his family found him unresponsive at home around 9.30 pm on Sunday, nearly nine hours after he had uploaded his last comedy skit online.

Family finds him unresponsive

Punit’s father, Bani Singh, said the boy was alone at home on Sunday. He himself was in Haridwar, his wife had gone to her parental home for work, and Punit’s grandmother was visiting her younger son. When the grandmother returned in the evening, she found Punit lying unresponsive and alerted other family members.

The teenager was rushed to a hospital in Beri, where doctors declared him dead. Police were informed shortly thereafter, and a postmortem was conducted before the body was handed over to the family.

Stress over studies

According to his father, Punit was an average student and often appeared worried about his studies. “He was under stress due to academics,” Bani Singh said, adding that the family had noticed signs of anxiety in recent months.

Passion for comedy reels

Punit enjoyed creating short comedy videos and frequently shared them with friends. He had created an Instagram page titled ‘Full Bakwas’ on Instagram, where he uploaded daily humorous reels, despite having a modest following of around 200 people.

Sandeep Kumar, the investigating officer at Beri police station, said police received information about the death around 11 pm on Sunday. “The father’s statement has been recorded and further inquiry is underway,” he said.
