A 17-year-old boy died after allegedly jumping in front of a metro train at Uttam Nagar East Metro Station in Delhi on Friday morning, police said.
Incident on blue line
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Kushal Pal Singh, information was received at around 11.07 am that a person had jumped in front of a moving train. On reaching the station, officers found that the boy had leapt onto the tracks from Platform 1 and was crushed under a train arriving from Dwarka.
The station falls on the Delhi Metro Blue Line, which connects Dwarka to Noida and Vaishali.
The body was later recovered from the tracks. Senior officials from the Metro unit also visited the spot as part of the inquiry.
Personal distress suspected
Initial investigation revealed that the boy was a Class 12 student attending coaching classes. Police said he was reportedly upset over personal issues. He was the only child of his parents, and his father works as a bus driver.
An inquiry has been initiated, and further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the incident.
Similar incidents in the past have led to temporary suspension of services and heightened security checks at metro stations across major cities.
Authorities have urged families and educational institutions to remain attentive to signs of emotional distress among teenagers and to encourage open conversations around mental well-being.
