A Class 11 student who had been missing from her home for three days was found dead in a pond near the village cremation ground on Saturday. Police suspect the case to be a suicide and have initiated further investigation.
According to officials, the girl went to her room on the night of February 11 after dinner, telling her family she needed to study. The next morning, she was not found in her room. After searching the house and nearby areas without success, the family approached the police and filed a missing complaint. CCTV footage later showed her leaving the house wearing her school uniform.
Diary note leads police to pond
During a search of her room, police recovered a diary containing a note addressed to her parents, seeking forgiveness and mentioning the cremation ground pond. Acting on this clue, a police team reached the spot with divers. Water was pumped out using a motor, and her body was eventually found lodged in the mud.
She was still wearing her school uniform at the time of recovery. Described by her family as a bright and sincere student, she was studying in Class 11 at Maitri School. Her father works in a local court library.
The body was handed over to the family after post-mortem examination. A senior police officer stated that a detailed probe is underway to ascertain the circumstances that led her to take the extreme step.
