An 18-year-old woman has been arrested in Uttar Pradesh’s Banda district for allegedly killing a middle-aged man with a sharp-edged weapon after he attempted to sexually assault her, police said on Friday.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Murwal village, under the jurisdiction of the Banda district police.
Body found with fatal head injuries
According to Station House Officer Rajendra Singh Rajawat, the body of Sukhraj Prajapati (50) was found inside a house around 3.30 pm with severe head injuries caused by a sharp-edged weapon.
Based on a complaint lodged by the victim’s family members, police registered a case of murder and launched an investigation.
Woman claims act was in self-defence
During interrogation, the accused woman told police that the man had entered her house and attempted to sexually assault her. She claimed that she acted in self-defence and struck him with a ‘farsa’ kept inside the house, which led to his death.
Police said the woman was arrested later on Thursday night, and the weapon allegedly used in the incident was recovered.
Legal process underway
The accused is scheduled to be produced before a local court on Friday. Police said further investigation is underway to verify the sequence of events and examine all available evidence.
Officials added that statements from witnesses and forensic reports will play a key role in determining the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The case has once again drawn attention to issues of women’s safety in rural areas and the legal complexities surrounding claims of self-defence in cases involving alleged sexual assault.
