At least 20 people were killed and several others injured after a passenger bus collided with a gravel-laden truck on the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway in Telangana’s Rangareddy district early Monday morning.

The accident occurred about 60 km from Hyderabad, when a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus travelling from Tandur in Vikarabad district to Hyderabad rammed into a truck carrying construction material.

Gravel fell into the bus, trapping passengers

The impact of the collision caused gravel from the truck to spill into the bus, burying many passengers under the debris.
Among the victims were a 10-month-old baby, 10 women, and the drivers of both vehicles.

Heart-wrenching visuals from the site showed rescue teams pulling out victims trapped beneath the rubble. The front section of the bus, including the six rows behind the driver’s seat, suffered the most severe damage. Many passengers in that section died on the spot.

Rescue operations and hospitalisation

Emergency responders, including police and fire personnel, worked for hours to rescue the injured and retrieve bodies using cutting equipment.
Several passengers with critical injuries have been shifted to nearby government hospitals, and medical teams are on high alert.

CM Revanth Reddy expresses grief

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and directed officials to rush to the spot to oversee rescue and relief efforts.

Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar has spoken with TSRTC Managing Director Y Nagireddy to ascertain the cause of the crash. He has also instructed the Rangareddy district collector to ensure that the injured receive the best possible treatment.

Opposition seeks full probe

KT Rama Rao (KTR), working president of the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), also expressed condolences to the bereaved families.
“The government must respond immediately and provide relief to the families of the deceased and the injured. Victims should be given the best possible medical care. A full investigation must be carried out into the causes of this horrific accident,” he said.

Investigation underway

Police have launched a probe to determine whether speeding or negligence led to the collision. Preliminary reports suggest poor visibility and overloading may have contributed to the severity of the crash.

Authorities have initiated clearance operations to remove debris and restore traffic on the highway.
