The Telangana government is considering bringing in a law to ensure financial security for elderly parents by mandating a direct transfer of 10 per cent of an employee’s salary to their parents if they are found to be neglecting them, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy said on Monday.

Salary transfer proposal for elderly parents

Speaking at a public event, the Chief Minister said elderly citizens are “members of our government family” and their welfare would be prioritised.
“If government employees neglect their parents, we will bring a law to directly transfer 10 per cent of their monthly salary to their parents,” he said.

He also announced that the state plans to establish day-care centres for senior citizens under the name ‘Pranam’, aimed at providing support and companionship to the elderly.

Focus on vulnerable sections

Revanth Reddy said the state government has designed multiple schemes to ensure justice and welfare for vulnerable sections, including the differently-abled, transgender persons and helpless senior citizens.
“This government listens to issues raised by the marginalised and resolves them. We want to instil confidence that the government stands firmly with them,” he said.

₹50 crore for assistive devices

The Chief Minister said the government has approved a ₹50 crore programme to provide assistive devices to persons with disabilities. He also announced reservations for the differently-abled in education and employment to help them compete confidently in society.

Additionally, the state will provide ₹2 lakh as marriage assistance for differently-abled individuals.

Sports encouragement and political representation

Highlighting achievements in sports, Revanth Reddy said a differently-abled woman who won a Paralympic medal has already been given a government job, urging others to draw inspiration from such achievements.

He also suggested that political parties should nominate at least one transgender person unopposed in the upcoming municipal elections to ensure political representation and enable them to voice their concerns directly.
